Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Ora Carpenter Omerza journal, Oct 23-30, 1981

23 Oct 1981

As I had to take the car in for another check, I went early and went to a session at the Temple. I always enjoy going to the Temple. There was a wedding going on so there were many happy people there. I went from there to see about the car. They are going to fix it on warranty for which I am very thankful. I went from there to Madge’s and we quilted for awhile. John came and wanted me to help them prepare some of their roosters for the freezer. I hadn’t cleaned chickens for 30 years but we gave it a try. What a mess. We did two and have eight to go. I’m sure with that much experience now we will do much better next time. It was a day of varied activities. In the evening Ted called and we had a good talk. He told me some of his spiritual experiences. I love my children and their families.

This is Saturday. Tomorrow will be our ward conference. The Bishop had asked to have the Relief Society Chorus sing for the Conferences so today I went to practice so I could sing with them. It has been a long time since I sang with the Chorus. I enjoyed it. The association with the sisters was great. I enjoyed it.

Today (Sunday) was our Ward Conference. It was a good day. I felt our singing was good. All the meetings were spiritual. At the request of the Stake President, Kent Turley, the Stake Presidency administered the Sacrament and the Bishopric helped pass it. I had never seen this done before and it was very inspiring. The talks were on improving our lives. Husbands and wives. Parents and children and in doing the things our Prophet has asked us to do.

In the evening Afton called to say Lee Ann had a new baby boy, born yesterday, 25th Oct. All are doing well.

Today I took my car to Randall Motors in Mesa to get the engine repaired. I have been very upset with the car. They told me they would do the car on warranty. I felt better about it. They also let me have a car to drive while they were doing the work.

After I delivered the car, I went to visit Marlene’s to give her a permanent. We decided on a haircut instead. I visited awhile with her and then visited with Nancy. We are all waiting for the baby.

Madge and family had stomach flu and she didn’t want me to come by. So I came on home.

I have been having trouble with my nerves again. My heart beats so fast. It can be very frightening when you’re alone.

Spent a miserable night. Feel better this morning.

Did a little sewing today. I thought I would go to Mesa for my car but it wasn’t ready.

Oct 28, 1981

Today was our Relief Society homemaking day. Our Bishop Jimmy Cluff showed us how to cook a good meal on a campfire.

I went to the doctor today to see about my heart. He says my heart has an irregular rhythm. He wants to put me on a 24 hour heart monitor. He didn’t seem to think it was too serious. In the afternoon I went to Mesa to pick up my car. I was feeling much better today.

Oct 29, 1981

Today was Library day. Gladys Beals, my partner, was ill so I went alone. It wasn’t too busy to I got along fine.

Jay came for lunch today. We had a good talk.

Eagerly awaiting the arrival of Nancy’s baby.

30 Oct 1981

Today was the day. A new little Granddaughter, Jessica Marie. Weighed 7 lbs 5 ½ oz. Everything went well and we are so grateful for her and for Nancy’s health. Bertha has been in Mesa since the 29th. She came this afternoon. It’s great to have her here.
