Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Ora Carpenter Omerza journal, April 2-4, 1982

2 April 1982

Today I had a real surprise. Velma Greenwood came to see me. She is living in Taylor and I hadn’t seen her for about two years. She had her daughter Lynn and little granddaughter Lisa with her. We went out to lunch and just had a good visit.

Today was General Conference. I went out to the Stake House and watched T.V. I was so happy to see Pres. Kimball was well enough to be there. He hasn’t been out much since his brain surgery in Sept. He had his secretary read his message to us. The talks were all so good. Honesty, integrity, marriage, divorce, the Savior. I didn’t come home in between sessions so I watched the musical presented in Salt Lake during the week of the woman’s conference. So many talented Latter-day Saint women.

4 April 1982

Were my mother living she would be 94 years old today.

Today was another wonderful day at Conference. President Kimball was present in the afternoon session. At the intermission we all stood and sang “We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet.” It was very touching to see the Prophet standing there as we sang. What a great Prophet he is. What an example he is to us. Through adversity and trials he still carries on. I’m sure it was a great effort on his part to be there and to speak a few words but Oh how great it was for us to hear his voice again.
