Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Ora Carpenter Omerza journal, June 12-17, 1981

Today is Jeremy’s birthday. What a boy. Two years old. He is talking so well. I can understand almost everything he says. I was invited to a birthday party for him.

I went a little early and stopped by Madge’s to give Linnea her birthday gift (a day late). They were all out swimming. Marlene and her children were there also. It was so much fun watching them in the water. They were having so much fun.

Then I went to Ted’s. Nancy had invited her Mother and Dad. We went to Bob’s Big Boy for dinner. Jeremy and Jennifer both thought that was great. I was surprised it made such an impression on them. Then we went home and opened gifts and had cake and ice cream. Jennifer was almost as excited as Jeremy. They are both such darling children. I enjoyed the whole day.

Today is Sunday. For the summer we are starting our meetings at 8 a.m. With Relief Society first and I only stayed till after the Sacrament at Sacrament Meeting. Then we went to our Stake Missionary Seminar. They were all good meetings. I particularly enjoy the missionary meetings. I have gained a lot from them.

Had a real interesting day. Nancy called early this morning! She had an appointment and her babysitter canceled out the last minute so I went over and stayed with the children. I enjoyed being with them. I visited with Nancy awhile after she got home and then stopped by to see Florence. We had such a good time. I stayed until afternoon. It was good to visit with her. Then I came home, mowed the lawn and went to bed. Good day.

Worked in the yard. Transplanted some flowers. Did some calling on some names we had been given for missionary work.

Fern Ruiz and I went Visiting Teaching today. I hope we helped a little in listening and sharing thoughts about their problems and joys. One sister was worried about her 78 year old father having open heart surgery tomorrow but we also shared her joy in her daughter having her first baby next month. They didn’t think they would be able to have children. I was so happy for them. Another sister having a hard time adjusting to her husband’s death. I took some books to her to read. Another sister torn between her mother and her son. Although the mother could live by herself she insists on living with her daughter and family. The house is small. The son feels his grandmother disapproves of him all the time. It causes discord in the family. Oh to have the wisdom to help each one.

Jay came to lunch today. I enjoy him so much. He has always been such a joy to me. He is fellowshipping one of his fellow workers. He is Japanese and lives in Glendale and Jay is Mesa so it is a real challenge. They went to the visitor’s center at the temple last evening.
