Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Ora Carpenter Omerza journal 6 Oct -15 Oct 1979

6 Oct 1979

Today was General Conference. I listened to all sessions on the radio. President Kimball admonished us, as he has for several years to keep a journal. I decided today was a good time to start. I enjoyed the conference talks very much. President Kimball had been ill and it was good to have him speak at the Conference.

7 Oct 1979

We watched the Sunday morning session of conference on T.V. and listened to the afternoon session on radio. Very enjoyable.

9 Oct 1979

I went to the Temple this morning. I was asked if I would do initiatory work. I accepted. Since I hadn’t done initiatory names for some time it was very inspiring. It is always good to have a review of the covenants we make and the blessings we can receive.

11 Oct 1979

Today is Thursday. I work in the Phoenix Stake Genealogical Library on Thursday afternoon. The work is rather slow but our Library is growing. After work we, Gladys Beals and I, picked up some pecans the Library staff is selling to earn money for materials for the Library.

12 Oct 1979

This evening we went to Mesa to take a birthday gift to Jason. He will be seven years old tomorrow. We also visited with Madge (John was out of town), and with Ted and Nancy and children.

14 Oct 1979

Last Sunday being General Conference we held our ward Fast and Testimony meeting today. The theme was “Becoming a Zion Family.” We accepted the challenge of one of the General Conference speakers to reread the Book of Mormon by April 1980. We have been reading a few chapters each evening.

15 Oct 1979

Jay called at noon and said he and his family would like to come over and cook hamburgers out doors this evening. It was such an enjoyable evening. It was cool, no flies and no bugs. We had a good meal and then visited. Marlene’s father and mother came. Jason didn’t get to have a family party on his birthday, so this was the family party. We had cake and ice cream and he got to blow the candles out. Jay and Marlene have a lovely family.
