Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

An interesting bit on Frank & Adelia

Frank Newton Tyler
son of Oscar & Harriet Amanda Brown Tyler
husband of Mary Adelia Pace Tyler

father of Lucinda Tyler Carpenter
grandfather of Ora Carpenter Omerza
great grandfather of Jay Omerza

Frank Tyler was sustained and ordained as Bishop of the Thatcher Ward by John Henry Smith on March 28, 1909.

Prior to his call as bishop, four of their children had passed away: Amanda at age 5, Viola at 22 months, Frank at age 5, and James at age 3. Daughter Lucinda would be married to Frank Carpenter in the Salt Lake Temple the month after he was sustained.

Two more children would be married while he was bishop. Daughter Ellen, also known as Ella, married returned missionary Jacob David Lee in the Salt Lake Temple. Son, Delbert was married to Idella Merrill with Bishop Tyler performing the ceremony. Interestingly enough, Delbert had received a mission call after his engagement, just two months before the wedding. After they were married, they traveled to Salt Lake, attended conference, went through the temple and were sealed. Delbert was set apart as a missionary and served 29 months before returning home to his bride.

Frank & Adelia’s son Jesse and daughter Flossie would be married after his release. Jesse, also known as Jack married Ada Davies (another Jack & Ada); and Flossie to Samuel Clive Beebe. Flossie and Clive were married eleven years before a baby would come, but the baby didn’t live, and Flossie passed away not long after at age 34. Frank & Adelia’s youngest daughter, Adelia developed diabetes young and passed away two months after her 20th birthday.

Frank served as Bishop until November 9, 1919. So, he was a bishop from age 48-59. His wife, Mary Adelia Pace Tyler was Relief Society President during this time as well.

During the Priesthood session of General Conference in April 1978,President Spencer W. Kimball said, “We always had a good bishop. We always loved him. There was Bishop Zundel and Bishop Moody and Bishop Tyler and Bishop Wilkins. I loved all my bishops. I hope all my young brethren love their bishops as I did.”

Frank Tyler was Spencer’s bishop from his 14th birthday through his missionary years, and possibly until his marriage to Camilla Eyring.
