Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Ora Carpenter Omerza journal, September 16-27, 1981

16 September 1981

Today I spent some time with Jennifer and Jeremy while Nancy went to the Doctor. Jeremy has the chicken pox but he is feeling much better. I enjoyed being with them. In the afternoon I went to Madge’s and helped her quilt. I left there to visit with Marlene and children. Marlene was giving piano lessons so I visited with the children. On my way home I stopped off at Ivan’s. Hazel had gone to the Hospital with Lori who was about to have her baby.

17 September 1981

Ivan called early this morning to say Lori had a fine baby girl (Lori and Walter Washburn). I’m happy for a new little one in the family.

My Visiting Teachers came in the morning. Jay came for lunch. It was good to have him. First time back since their baby came. In the afternoon I went to the Library.

19 September 1981

Florence called today to say Uncle Less Carpenter passed away. I had been expecting the news for about two weeks.

20 September 1981

Today is Sunday. Went to my meetings. Bertha called as I got home. She wasn’t feeling too well and said she didn’t think she could make it over for Uncle Less’ funeral. Linda and Dan will move into the new house tomorrow.

22 September 1981

Today was the funeral for Uncle Less Carpenter. It was a very nice service. It was all done by the family except a male quartet. The music was beautiful. All the relatives were there.

After the service I had lunch with Florence and Joe and Ivan. It’s always good to be with my family. From there I went to visit with Madge, Marlene and Nancy and children.

26 September 1981

This evening was the women’s conference of the church. We went to the Stake Center and heard it over direct wire from Salt Lake. It was most inspiring. Pres. Kimball wasn’t with us. He was ill in the hospital. Pres. Benson and Pres. Hinckley were the Priesthood Speakers.

27 September 1981

Today was Stake Conference. Our Visitor was Raymond Russell our Regional Representative. We also heard from our Stake President Kent Turley and his counselors. It was a very spiritual meeting. We also had a meeting in the evening.

During the week we got word that David and Chris Carpenter’s little one, Teresa Ann, passed away. She really had a struggle with her two months of life. They brought her to Thatcher for burial. She is buried beside her Great Grandparents, Frank and Lucinda Carpenter.
