Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Ora Carpenter Omerza journal, June 24-30, 1981

24 June 1981

I woke up very calm this morning. What a wonderful feeling from yesterday. I have been greatly blessed. I went to Mesa today and did Madge’s hair and we had a good visit. I felt calm all day. Only a few times did my heart beat fast. I am so thankful for the blessing I received yesterday. Sometimes it is hard for me to believe my Heavenly Father is aware of me, that I am important to Him. This blessing lets me know He is willing and ready to do His part if I will do mine.

Felt good when I got up. Such a peaceful feeling. Did a few routine things before going to the Library. I said a few things I shouldn’t have said today. My old habit of judging. I was sorry the minute it was out. I could feel this good spirit withdraw. I hope it will be a lesson to me and I will be able to overcome my faults that I might enjoy a calm and comforting spirit all the time, that I can prepare myself for higher things.

Today is Glenn’s birthday. I am late with his gift. I got a book for him today. I also got one for Brent in August and Jason in October. I will be going to Mesa next week and will give Glenn his present then.

27 June 1981

Today is Saturday. Did a few routine jobs in the house and yard. Did some background reading for my next Relief Society Lesson.

28 June 1981

Today is Sunday and the last missionary meeting at the Stake. The last part of the meeting was turned over to testimonies. The younger group met with us. It was so thrilling to hear the testimonies of those young boys preparing themselves to go on full time missions. It was quite an effort to go to those meetings. I had to miss so many ward meetings but it was worthwhile. They were truly inspirational. Pres. Malen Lewis and Jeff Smith were the leaders.

I wrote a letter to Kate Kuchta today. I would like to give her one of my Books of Mormon with my picture and testimony. I have felt for a long time that Kate should join the church. I hope I can do something to help her.

29 June 1981

Bertha came to Mesa today. She will be doing Temple work for a few days and then stay with me a few days. It’s always good to have her here.

30 June 1981

It was cloudy today and the temperature was down so I took advantage of that and did quite a bit of yard work. There is always yard work. In the afternoon I prepared my Relief Society lesson. I am feeling so much better. I am so grateful for the Priesthood blessing. I received a week ago.
