Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Ora Carpenter Omerza journal, March 29-April 8, 1981

29 March 1981

We had our Fast and Testimony meeting today as next Sunday will be General Conference. Instead of our Relief Society Meeting and Priesthood Meeting today we met with the Priesthood and heard a talk on Missionary work by Brother Malin Lewis. He is our Stake Mission President. He has made arrangements for ward members to have family group pictures taken by a professional photographer. The pictures along with your testimony, is to be put in Books of Mormon to be given to non member friends. The friends name can be embossed on the front of the book.

Went to the library in the afternoon and in the evening Jay, Madge and Ted came to work on our four generation sheets. Jay came from work so we had dinner together. Madge and Ted came later. We pooled all our knowledge of the Omerza family. It’s so hard to know what’s right, so much of our information doesn’t match. It was so good to have the children here. They are so dear to me and such a comfort. It gets so lonely without Em. My children are the light of my life.

Today was the first day of General Conference. I listened to all sessions on radio. As usual the talks were all timely and comforting. I marvel at the stamina of President Kimball. Since the last Conference he has been traveling most of the time. His voice seemed stronger than at the last conference.

Today Ted and Nancy invited me to watch the conference on T.V. with them. We watched both morning and afternoon sessions. At noon we had a lovely dinner. It was so nice being in their home and being with their children. I enjoy them so much. The conference talks were good and I felt it had been a very spiritual day. After the conference I visited with Jay and Marlene and children for awhile. Families are so wonderful. John and Madge and family were visiting with John’s folks so I didn’t see them today.

Had a surprise today. Blanch Lee called to say she would be in Tempe on Tuesday and tomorrow and would stay over till Wednesday and asked if I would go to the Temple with her on Wednesday. I was glad to hear from her and invited her to spend the night on Tuesday with me.

7 April 1981

Spent the morning at the church quilting. Our Relief Society is quilting a quilt for pay. The money will go to the ward budget. Blanch came in the evening and we had a good visit. Haven’t had a real visit with her for years and years. It was good to talk over old times.

8 April 1981

Blanch and I went to the Temple this morning. I had irrigation water coming at noon so I came home and Blanch went to a second session at the Temple and then went home to Thatcher. I enjoyed her visit so much also our sessions at the Temple.
