Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Ora Carpenter Omerza journal, March 10-13, 1981

10 March 1981

Today is Madge’s Birthday. Thirty five years. She is so dear to me. Always loving and respectful. Very devoted to the church and its teachings for which I am very thankful. She had invited all the family to her home for cake and ice cream in the evening. Not liking to drive alone at night, Ted stopped by after work and I went to Mesa with him. I had a lovely dinner with him and his family then we went to Madge’s. I enjoyed the evening so much. John and Madge brought me home.

Today I was to irrigate at 6:25 a.m. It’s just getting light at that time. There was no water in the ditch. I checked at the main gate but no water there. I checked the water board again to see if I had made a mistake on the date. I was right. I called Salt River Project. They said they would check and call back but they didn’t call back and my time ran out so I decided that there was no irrigation this month. I worked in the yard all morning and about noon l was pretty tired and decided to quit for lunch, when a neighbor down the street came down and asked if I’d missed the water. He had found what was holding it up and turned it in the ditch. He said he had more than he could use and I could have what he didn’t use. I had plenty and was very grateful for it. I was very weary by the end of the day, but I felt I had accomplished quite a lot.

Today was Library day again. I cleaned the car in the morning and spent the afternoon at the Library. Our replacement didn’t come so we spent six hours instead of four there.

13 March 1981

Today is Friday and Grandparents day at the Mesa Schools. Nikki invited me to come have lunch with her and Marnee and Jason. It was good being with my grandchildren. We had a nice lunch in the cafeteria. After lunch I went with Nikki to see Stefani’s room. Nikki helps the teacher for a period after lunch. It was very interesting. They certainly teach a lot in kindergarten. Stefani showed me all the things they were making.

I left that school and went to a program Glenn’s class was having. They had skits, song, magic, instrument solos, and piano solos. Glenn played the piano and did very well. Ada Thomas was there also and after the program we both went to visit with Madge. Ada gave me $25 to put something in the Genealogical Library as a memorial to Em. This morning I worked on Genealogy getting our four generation sheets ready to send in.
