25 May 1980 (Sunday)

26 May 1980 (Monday)
Madge came over to see Em today. It’s hard for her to leave the baby. Em was quite nervous today.
27 May 1980 (Tuesday)
Today they told Em the operation wouldn’t be until Friday morning. I was more upset than he was. He has waited so long. I hope he won’t get upset. They think they can do the hernia operation at the same time.
29 May 1980 (Thursday)
Em felt better today. I visited in the morning and then went to the Genealogical Library and went back to the Hospital in the evening.
Tomorrow is the big day. I will have to be at the hospital at 6 am. The operation will be at 7:30. Florence and Joe are coming over to be with me. I feel calm and I know my Heavenly Father has blessed me. Jay and Ted came and gave a blessing.
30 May 1980 (Friday)
Today was the operation. I was at the hospital at 6:00 am. Em was up and showered and getting ready. He was a little nervous but calmer than I had expected. They took him in the operating room about 7:40. Florence and Joe came about 8:15. I was so grateful for having them there with me. We visited and it took my mind off the operation. It was about 12 noon when the Doctor came in. He said the operation went very well but as they were about to close they found a cyst on the liver. It was malignant. It was quite a blow. However, when we talked with another Doctor, a general surgeon, he said they couldn’t find any more. They would run some more tests and if the spot on the liver was the original source that they had already removed it all. I am worrying what it will do to Em when they tell him. I feel very confident that it can be taken care of. Florence and Joe were a great source of comfort to me at this time.
They left about 1pm and I stayed until they had Em settled in intensive care. I went back at 8 pm. They said all his vital signs were stable. It was a long hard day but I felt the strength of my Heavenly Father through it all. Bertha called in the evening to see how things went. She is such a comfort to me.
I know the Priesthood blessings and the faith and prayers of the family are what brought him through so well.
31 May 1980 (Saturday)
I spent most of the day going back and forth to the hospital. I could only see him a half hour every three hours. He is in a lot of pain but he is still in stable condition for which we are very grateful.
