Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Saturday was a sad day. Many people lost their homes in the flood. We were still waiting for the new storm. It came but was delayed a few hours which gave time to release more water in the dam and then the storm wasn’t as strong as they thought it might be.

Bertha was planning on coming over to stay a few days but due to the storm and the flooding and traffic and our Governors warning that every one stay home she decided to stay in Mesa until conditions were better.

Today is Sunday. Due to the storm and flood and all the bridges out across the river the Sixth ward joined with us (12th) for meetings. It was good to see some of the people he hadn’t seen for two years when we were moved to the 12th ward.

We have been getting a lot of rain this week. The Salt and Verde rivers are still running full. Many people have lost their homes and businesses. It was said at first the loss was about 30 million. It will be greater. More flooding to the west of us. We were not harmed by the water and are so thankful. The traffic across the river is heavy. We haven’t had to cross.

Went to Relief Society today. We had a good meeting. They gave us our new time for meetings when we go on the new block plan. We will meet from 2 to 5 pm. Every one seems excited and looking forward to the new plan.

Due to the flood and the river crossings being closed I didn’t go to the Library today. The workers living on the north side of the river are taking over for us this week. I worked on my genealogy.

Fern Ruiz and I did our visiting teaching. We found all the sisters home but one and had a nice visit with each one. After we finished teaching, I took Fern shopping. In the evening Em and I went out for Mexican food. It was a beautiful day. No rain. I worked in the yard for awhile in the afternoon. Bertha called from Mesa and said she was coming over for the weekend if it wasn’t raining in the morning.
