Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Bishop Tyler

President Spencer W. Kimball frequently taught the importance of sustaining local and general Church leaders. During the priesthood session of general conference in April 1978, he recalled feelings he had as a youth regarding each man who served as his bishop: “We always had a good bishop. We always loved him. There was Bishop Zundel and Bishop Moody and Bishop Tyler and Bishop Wilkins. I loved all my bishops. I hope all my young brethren love their bishops as I did.”

In Conference Report, Apr. 1978, 68; or Ensign, May 1978, 45.

In December 1907, I was chosen by Brother Andrew C. Peterson to be first counselor to him in the Thatcher ward Bishopric. I held this office for two years, and then, on March 28th, 1909 I was sustained and ordained as Bishop of the Thatcher Ward by John Henry Smith.
