Most of the Carpenters are of a quiet, unassuming, uncomplaining disposition - always ready to support any good work.

Interesting to note a common virtue among the men in the family - always showing kindness and thoughtful concern to their companions and children.

Ora Carpenter Omerza history, 8th installment

Those were hard years adjusting to each other. He always treated me very special but we just didn’t think along the same lines. But in spite of our differences my love for him was growing and I’m sure his for me was too.

I had always thought one of the main reasons for getting married was to raise a family but he said “no”. He didn’t have anything to offer a child and he didn’t want to be tied down to kids. This broke my heart. What had I done? No children and he seemed farther and farther away from the church. My desire for a child seemed to take possession of me, that was all I could think of. He had a good job and I felt we could manage on his salary and I could quit work and have a baby. After about 2 ½ years he said if that’s what would make me happy that’s what we would do. He liked the idea of me quitting work but still wasn’t quite sold on the baby.

Our first little child was born 14 April 1942. A little boy and we named him Emerick Jay. I shall never forget the joy I felt when I first held him in my arms. I think his father was pretty thrilled too, although he was scared to death to hold him. He sorta turned him over to me with the attitude – you wanted him, now he is yours. And oh, how I enjoyed him.
