It’s been a week since my last entry so I will just review some of the events of the week. Last Sunday evening Jay and Marlene and the children came. We enjoyed a good visit. They had been visiting with Marlene’s folks and just dropped by on their way home to say ‘Hello.’ I enjoyed having them come so much.
On Monday I went to Mesa to visit with Florence. I had missed her birthday the week before as she was away that day, we had a good visit. It seems we never really take time to visit any more. Everyone is in a hurry.
Wednesday was our Relief Society Homemaking day. The theme was in commemoration of the 24th of July. The tables were decorated to suit the occasion and many were dressed as pioneers. It was an interesting day of instruction and visiting.
Thursday Jay came for lunch and I went to the Library in the afternoon we aren’t too busy at the Library. Many people on vacation and many of the workers are also on vacation. My partner Gladys Beals had been in California for a month so I have been working alone.
The rest of the week I spent in packing away things in preparation for my move. Today Sunday was my day to give the Relief Society lesson. It went very well. I am having so much trouble with my hearing I always worry a little when I’m giving the lesson that I will not be able to hear answers to the questions. I had to fervently ask for help in giving this lesson because there was to be quite some discussion. I was truly blessed. I heard every answer and the lesson went well.

Another week has passed. I spent Monday and Tuesday cleaning out closets and packing things away. Jay came to lunch on Wednesday and after he left I went to Mesa to stay with Ted and Nancy’s children while they went out for the evening. I enjoyed being in their home and being with their children. They observed their seventh wedding anniversary on the second of August. It seems such a short time. They have a lovely little family. I enjoyed being with them.
Thursday it was Library as usual. the work is slow there.
On Friday I went Visiting Teaching with my partner Fern Ruiz.
Saturday Aug 7th was my birthday. Since Jay and his family were on ca camping trip the children decided to celebrate my birthday on Monday. I had a lot of things to do on Saturday morning. Our ward was having a Deseret Industry drive. I had several items I needed to get to the ward building and some shopping and other things. When I got home I talked to Florence and she said they would like to come see me in the afternoon. But before all this at seven o’clock that morning I had a call from Norine. It was so good to talk to her. I felt so honored that she would call me on my birthday. As it turned out Florence and Joe, Ivan and Hazel, and Afton and Lorna all came to see me in the afternoon. They brought cake and ice cream and we just had a great time together. I really appreciated their coming. It was a great time.

As usual I didn’t get any writing done during the week.
The children and grandchildren came on Monday to celebrate my birthday. They were all here except John, Eldon, and Glenn, they were in Flagstaff for a Boy Scout Jamboree. We missed them but we had a wonderful time. We cooked hamburgers outside and had salads and chips and Nancy brought a beautifully decorated cake and of course we had to have ice cream to go with the cake. It was so good to have them all here. I’m always a little sad when they leave because I always want to talk the good time over with Em.
Tuesday I did some more packing. Tuesday evening I didn’t feel too well. I felt like I had the flu. I ached all over but Wednesday morning I felt better. I did some visiting teaching in the morning and Jay came for lunch. I went to the Temple with the Roats in the evening. When I got home form the Temple I was feeling bad again and my bad knee was all swelled up. It gives me trouble off and on but hadn’t been quite this bad on Friday so I spent most of the day on the bed. Saturday it was much better and today, Sunday, it is still better. I have too much to do to be down with a bad leg. Only two weeks and I will be moving.
The new owners Tom and Rhonda Donethan came to look at the house again today and to find out a few things. They seem like such a nice couple.
