I went shopping this morning and went to a concert in the evening. Marlene’s Stake Relief Society was giving a Spring Sing. Marlene was the accompanist. Nikki was her helper. It was beautiful. The women were all in pastel shades and the harmony was great. I went with Jay and we met Marlene’s Dad and Mother there. It was a lovely evening.

Today I went with Jay’s family to an open house of the Hughes Helicopter plant. This is Jay’s place of employment. It was very interesting. They are building these helicopters to use in combat. They have a device to enable them to see clearly on the darkest night. Ted was there and all of Jay’s family. Madge and John were planning on being there but Heather cut her lip which required stitches, so they couldn’t come. It was a very interesting day. They served cold pop and popcorn which delighted the kids. After I left Jay’s I stopped at Madge’s to see how Heather was. It didn’t look too bad from the outside but the stitches were all inside the mouth. I felt so sorry for her.

Today is Mother’s Day. My children were all so good to me. Mother’s Day always makes me feel a little guilty. I never feel I live up to all the nice things they say about mothers. Jay and Marlene and Ted and Nancy both gave me a beautiful corsage, a beautiful card and flower arrangement from Ted and Nancy and a lovely letter from Madge expressing her love for me. I shall always cherish it as I will the messages expressed on cards and their verbal expressions of love for me. I am so blessed.
We had a Mother’s Day program in church. All the mothers were given a beautiful long stemmed carnation. After church I went to Ted and Nancy’s for dinner. In the afternoon I stayed with Heather and Melanie while Madge taught her class for her assignment in her teacher development class.

May 9th was my father’s birthday. He would have been 97.
Mostly I worked in the yard today. Sometimes I think this yard is impossible but it keeps looking better all the time so maybe if I keep working I can get it in shape. I know I’m ready for bed tonight.

Marlene called and asked if I could stay with the children while she did her visiting teaching. I spent the morning there. Ted came in the afternoon and checked the cooler. It has been so cool this spring we haven’t needed the cooler until now.

I went to Madge’s today. She took Melanie back to the Doctor in Prescott. She also took Eldon. He has been having so much trouble with his neck and back. He was quite pleased with the result. He said his back and neck hadn’t felt so good in ever so long. Melanie was doing fine also.
Madge just got back from Prescott in time to take Heather to the doctor to check on her lip. It was a busy day. I left Madge’s and came home, had something to eat and went to stay with Ted’s children while they went to do Temple sealings.

This is where my transcript of Ora’s journal ends. There may be more, but I never put it in the computer (years ago when I began this project). As I said at the beginning, I returned the original handwritten copies to Madge by way of my Dad, so hopefully they are in her safe keeping.
