According to this census entry which completes the first page and continues on the second page, John Carpenter, a Merchant, was 28 years old. His wife, Margaret was also 28, son Erastus was 5, daughter Elizabeth was 3, and son John S. Carpenter was 1. All were born in Delaware. If you notice there were other people in the Carpenter household, including a Thomas Steel. The next family recorded in the census is that of John McCullough, Jr., Margaret's brother.
