6 June 1980 Friday

A week ago today since Em had his surgery. They took a lower G.I. test today. It was very hard on him but after he had been back in his room awhile he seemed ok. They will take an upper G.I. tomorrow. I was at the hospital most of the day waiting to see the doctor. I took a little break at noon and went to Park Central. I was looking for a birthday present for Linnea and Jeremy. I got part of it. Also got me a blouse. I was very weary when I got home.

7 June 1980 Saturday

When I went in to see Em today he was out of his room having the G.I. x-ray. The technician finished and told Em he couldn’t find anything. I was elated however I decided to wait to see what the doctor said. When he came in he said we still had to find the primary source. He wants to take a scan of his whole body. It’s a new device supposed to catch any cancer. I still have faith there is no more cancer in his body.

Called Jay and he said the results of the tests he took all looked good. There was a slight low white blood count. The doctor told him to rest as much as he could and they would check the blood count again in a month. I was glad to know there wasn’t anything very seriously wrong Jay has been through so much stress the past two years. I hope he can get things under control now.

Ted visited with his Dad this afternoon and then came down to the house and visited with me. I enjoyed his visit. I am so grateful for him. He is so good for his father.

Bertha called in the evening. She is in Mesa. She will leave Monday evening for her vacation in Hawaii.

8 June 1980 Sunday

I felt the need to fast today for Em’s recovery. I visited with him in the morning then went to my meetings. After church I visited with him again. He will be released from the hospital tomorrow. John and Madge came over in the evening. I felt very close to my Heavenly Father today.

9 June (Monday)

I brought Em home from the hospital this morning. He seems is good spirits now. I feel it will take some time for him to recover physically and emotionally I hope we are both equal to it.

11 June 1980 Wednesday

Went into the doctor’s office to have the sutures removed. It was quite painful. He will feel better after awhile. Today is Linnea’s birthday. Three years old. She is a lovely child.

12 June 1980 Thursday

Today is Jeremy’s birthday. One year. He is so happy to find he can walk. He is so cute. They postponed his birthday until Saturday.

14 June 1980

Em felt well enough to go to Mesa. We visited with all the children and their families. We went to Jeremy’s birthday party. He was so cute. I think Jennifer enjoyed it as much as Jeremy. He was awed by the cake and candle and presents but more so by the flash of the camera. We had a nice visit with them and ate birthday cake and ice cream. We didn’t stay too long as Em was tired. It was the first time he had been out since coming home from the hospital.

15 June Sunday

Today is Father’s day. I only went to Sacrament meeting. Didn’t want to leave Em too long. The boys called in the afternoon to wish him a happy Father’s day.
