1 July 1980 Tuesday
Went to the hospital. I wanted to bring Em home. Em seemed very confused. He didn’t seem very concerned about the results of the test. I explained it all to him and told him the doctor wanted to operate and that he would have a colostomy. He said ‘no operation’. I told the doctor our discussion. He said we were making a mistake and wanted us to talk to another doctor. We waited for him and he told us the same thing. The doctor wanted to keep Em in the hospital and they would operate in about ten days. I told him I wanted to take Em home that day. He said he would come back and sign the release after we had talked to the other doctor. I told Em he would be released and could go home. His mind seemed to clear immediately and he began to prepare to leave. However it was almost two o’clock before we got away. He seemed so much better after we got home.
2 July 1980 Wednesday
Things went fairly smooth today. Jay stopped by after work and brought some tapes Ted got on the Word of Wisdom by Jack West. He tells of his bout with cancer and how apricot pits and wheat grass helped him. Em agreed to listen to the tapes.
3 July 1980 Thursday
We listened to the tapes. It sounds encouraging, if we can do all he says.
4 July Friday
Today is Em’s birthday. Madge invited us all over to her house. The children swam and we had lunch. Everyone seemed to have fun. Em seemed to enjoy it. John, Glenn and Brent were gone. They went up to Alaska with John’s brother and family for a few days.
Em and I left Madge’s about 2pm. Em was tired. The others stayed the rest of the day. It was so good being with all of them.
6 July Sunday
Em didn’t feel like going to church today. I went to Sacrament meeting.
7 July Monday
Had a nice surprise today. Madge and the children came. They haven’t been over for some time. It was good to have them here.
